Dr Donncha O’Gradaigh is a Consultant Rheumatologist in University Hospital Waterford (UHW) since 2004, and Honorary Clinical Lecturer for the Royal College of Surgeons’ and for University College Cork’s Medical Schools.
His special interests include multidisciplinary care pathways (within the rheumatology service), quality improvement (RCPI Diploma) and Evidence-based Practice (MSc Oxford). He has served as Clinical Director for Medical Services at UHW.
Professor Richard Conway, MB BCh BAO PhD, is a rheumatologist and general physician working in St. James's Hospital, a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, and an Associate Professor in Trinity College, working in the School of Medicine. He has a PhD in clinical and translational aspects of giant cell arteritis from University College Dublin. His research focuses on vasculitis, interstitial lung disease in rheumatic diseases, and on outcomes research in acute medicine. Professor Conway is the National Lead for the COVID-19 Global Rheumatology Alliance and sits on the Clinical and Scientific Committee of this organisation.
He is a member of the Outcome Measures in Rheumatology (OMERACT) Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR) Working Group and the Working Group on Training in Rheumatology across Europe. He is a member of the European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR) Clinical Research Sub-committee and the EULAR Education Sub-committee (Training/CME).
Noreen completed her training as a general nurse in Whittington Hospital, London in 1992, later specialising in respiratory and rheumatology care.
In 1999 she took up a post in the North West Rheumatology Unit (NWRU) in Manorhamilton. Noreen has been working as a Rheumatology Advanced Nurse Practitioner (RANP) in NWRU since 2014 and included in her caseload are individuals who are newly diagnosed with inflammatory arthritis enrolled in a Treat to Target (T2T) programme with the aim of achieving early remission for this patient cohort.
Education has been a prominent focus in Noreen’s career and she has completed a BSc, National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG) in 2007, the Postgraduate Diploma in Rheumatology Nursing in 2009 in University College Dublin (UCD) and an MSc in research in NUIG in 2010. Noreen is also a registered nurse prescriber and an x- ray prescriber.
Dr. Orr is a graduate of The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and has an interest in understanding the molecular disease networks which underlie the development and propagation of rheumatic diseases, especially rheumatoid arthritis.
He was awarded his PhD at University College Dublin (UCD). He also has an interest in management and quality improvement and has completed an MSc in Leadership and Management Development. He has undertaken a clinical fellowship at the University of Oxford, and was appointed Consultant Rheumatologist at St. Vincent’s University Hospital in 2020.
Dr. Silke graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1996. She is now a Consultant Rheumatologist in the North- West Rheumatology Unit based in Sligo and Manorhamilton.
Interests include Inflammatory Arthritis and Osteoporosis. She has completed a Medical Doctorate on the genetics of osteoporosis and a Masters in Sports and Exercise medicine through University College Cork; in addition to certification in clinical densitometry and clinical teaching.
Dr. Silke has published numerous papers on bone density, fracture prevention and body composition. She is a current member of DXA HIP research group and has lectured in DXA society meetings and the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) Body composition courses.
Honorary Senior lecturer in University College Galway and actively involved in teaching Medical students and Rheumatology trainees. Dr. Silke recently appointed as Honorary Professor in University College Galway.
Professor Sinéad Harney graduated from UCG in 1994 and did her specialist training in Rheumatology and General Medicine in Dublin. She completed her training in Oxford in 2005 and was awarded a DPhil by thesis titled “Major Histocompatibility Genetics of Rheumatoid Arthritis”.
She was appointed to a Consultant Rheumatologist post in Cork University Hospital in 2005 and has worked there since. She completed a Masters in Sports and Exercise Medicine in UCC in 2007. Her research interests include – Genetics of inflammatory arthritis and occult cardiovascular disease in Rheumatoid Arthritis. She was President of the Irish Society of Rheumatology from 2017 to 2019 and is a board member of the Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) committee of the Irish Sports Council and of the International Federation of American Football.
